T7 students are about to embark on a new adventure!

Included in our programming this year is Adventures in Art and Literacy, a new Saturday program for T7 kids in 3rd-12th grades. The kids will meet every Saturday in the White Cedar Room at Kateri Center where they will be reading Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Other Hobbit related activities will include making art, sculpting with clay, designing costumes, making jewelry, archery and more. There will also be several field trips which include the Adler Planetarium, the Field Museum, and Lill Street Art Center.

This session of Adventures in Art and Literacy will end with the viewing of The Hobbit: an Unexpected Journey directed by Peter Jackson (director of the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy) in IMAX.

Adventures in Art and Literacy is open to American Indian CPS students in 3rd-12th grades and have a current ED506 form on file with Chicago T7.

The Chi-noodin Community Writers Group Returns!

The first publication of the Chi-noodin Community Writers Group "We Write for Ourselves" is now available!

The Chi-noodin Community Writers Group returns for its FOURTH SESSION on Friday, February 10, 2012. In partnership with the Kateri Center of Chicago and the UIC Community Writing Project, the Chi-noodin Writers Group is made up of local Native American community members in an effort to tell our stories of living in the city using our own words and our own voices.

We invite members of the Native Community of Chicago to join us!

Where: The Kateri Center, 3938 North Leavitt
When: Fridays, beginning February 10th through April!

No prior writing or publication experience is necessary. Come write about your experiences in a sharing and open environment. Snacks and writing materials provided. Quality and friendly feedback and support is a constant. Join us as we work towards our second publication in the summer of 2012!
