Hello All, we hope you are all safe and healthy!

As everyone may be aware of by now, the Governor of the State of Illinois has enforced a statewide closure of all schools in the state including the Chicago Public School district. All CPS schools and both of our office locations will be closed from Tuesday, March 17, 2020, through Monday, March 30, 2020. Schools and CPS offices are expected to re-open for school and normal work duties on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

As a result, our program will not be hosting any in-person events or meetings during this time. Our staff will be working remotely from home and will have access to emails and will be checking any voice messages intermittently throughout the closure. We will continue to dedicate ourselves to be a resource to local Native families and their students.

Please contact the following staff members for assistance:

Lisa Bernal (Program Manager) Email: LkbernaL@cps.edu – questions about district response to COVID-19, district processes, grant compliance and funding, Spring Break program, and available student academic or cultural services

Chantay Moore (Project Coordinator) Email: cwmoore@cps.edu – questions about CPS AIEP marketing and communications, CAICC Urban Education Conference 2020, and program outreach efforts.

David Morales (Youth Development Specialist) Email: dmorales94@cps.edu – questions about Young Native Leaders, U.N.I.T.Y. fundraising, or Bingo donations

We continue to closely monitor the situation and will follow the direction of local authorities and district officials should things change.

In the meantime, here is an enrichment resource package available for home learning for PreK-12th grade, with downloadable links inside to grade-specific work and activities:

All CPS school sites will serve as food distribution sites for CPS students. Food pick-up will take place outside of the school building and begins at every school on Tuesday, March 17 and is scheduled from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Monday through Friday. CPS families can pick-up three days’ worth of meals at a time, each with two meals per child. If you need assistance, please call the CPS Command Center at 773-553-KIDS (5437) or email familyservices@cps.edu.

Please take care of yourself and others.
